Sensitivity vs Allergy

Sensitivity or allergy — what's the difference?

Allergy

An allergy is an immune-system response (IgE antibodies) to a food or environmental trigger. Reactions can be sudden and severe — swelling, hives, breathing difficulty or vomiting — and may need immediate veterinary attention.

Sensitivity / intolerance

A sensitivity is a non-immune reaction that tends to build up over time. It's often behind everyday discomfort like itchy paws, licking, hot spots, goopy ears, fur loss, gas and loose stools.

Where our test fits

Our kit screens for sensitivities and imbalances, not allergies. It's a starting point to help you identify items to eliminate from your pet's diet and environment. If you suspect a true allergy, please see your veterinarian.
